FBA

The Fashion Business Association is our major's club! I was an officer for two years in a row; Public Relations coordinator my freshman year, and Events Coordinator my sophomore year. I have met so many amazing, creative people and FBA has given me opportunities to interact with small businesses around town!

Visual Merchandising Project (May 2011).

Our group created the company called "Bella by DARC" (after our groups initials) for this project and used the principles of design to reflect garments that would be sold in our store. Our inspiration was Tim Burton and Louise Nevelson. The eerie feel to our boards added an edge and kept our audience intrigued!

Unconventional Materials Project: December 2011.

I chose to create my garment out of coffee products. The bodice and skirt are made out of coffee filters dyed in espresso, and that are then decoupaged to create a hard exterior. The garment is lined with brown construction paper and contact paper to give flexibility and movement. I added a crystal pleating to the skirt to add more structure and volume to the look. The inspiration for this look was the Ethiopian culture, where coffee originated from. My focus is on women working in small businesses, due to the fact that majority of women produce and make the coffee in Ethiopia. The painted coffee beans on the bodice represent their vibrant culture in a colorful tribal print they would most likely wear.

Swipes Book Projects

Creating books with images clipped for inspiration help us to get our ideas together for our next design!

First Flat Pattern Dress!

Step one: Draft pattern, cut all pattern pieces.

Step two: Paint the print on the fabric, let dry.

Step three: Start construction, and add finishing touches!

Historic Costume Exhibit (May 2011): "1920s Speak Easy".

For our groups exhibit, we chose the 1920s and the Flapper dress. We wanted to showcase the dress in a Speak Easy setting to recreate the experience and ambiance of that era.

Shadow Box: December 2010.

The assignment for my Historic Costume class was to pick a particular country and represent a Then and Now interpretation of a garment. Our group chose Egypt; from a Sheath dress to a modern day Maxi-dress.

The boxes were displayed at the Mall!

This particular project was all about different mediums and techniques. I chose to do two asymetric pages and two symetric pages. The categories for the pages are in this order: plads, furs, florals, and tweeds. Marker was the primary medium for all the pages. The secondary mediums were brush and ink, pen and ink, and prisma colored pencils. Chalk is used as an accent to the pages.

Water Color Project

I call this project "then and now". The medium for this project is watercolor. There is a second medium for each page; chalk for the first page, pen and ink for the second, brush and ink for the third, and prisma colored pencils for the fourth. My theme for this project was decades. I chose the 30's, 40's, 50's, and 60's because I feel those time periods really shaped our style of dress today. I wanted to show that the silhouettes that were so iconic in those periods are still reflected in our current styles, so the garments with the dates on the side represent the "then" piece, and the garments without dates are the "now" styles created today.

Final Project for Techniques class

I call this project "winter wonderland" because it was around the holidays when we were assigned this project. I chose to draw a string of lights for the border to give a more festive look to the project. The medium is marker and brush and ink.
